Hard work
is the name of the game in the artroom. Just ask anyone who is in a studio
class. The sketches, the rough drafts, the media work and the completion of
projects seems to be never ending and always one day away from being
graded. You would think that it would be stressful if it wasn't so fun. Creating "art" is different than playing with materials. That would be stressful. The process of learning what art is and attempting to create it better than anyone else in your class, now that can be fun. While it is true that not all students who take art are as serious as others, most at least attempt to master the skills shown. The result of this attempt is almost always "art" in someones eyes. Sometimes the "art" that is created isn't even liked by the person who created it. Most times, students do their best work in hopes that it will bring them a good grade. |
The truth of the matter is that
all of the work created in the artroom is "art". The phrase;
"The good, the bad and the ugly" sometimes seems to apply, but the
beauty of art is in the eye of the viewer not the artist. While it is true that
some art students take a lot of pride in their work and see it through to the
end that "they" envision. The viewer of their work when it is on
display is pure. The look at your work with no preconcieved ideas, themes or
thoughts. What they see is a piece of "art" that they either like or
dislike. Understand or reject. Appreciate or dismiss. The reaction by these
viewers is the actual gauge by which your "art" is judged. The only
students who don't have this opportunity to touch the minds of the viewers who
critique their efforts are the unfortunate few that miss the fun by not
completing their work in class to display at all.
