| During the 4th dynasty,
pyramid building was at it's peak. These structures were created by
hundreds of thousands of men, many of whom died in the effort. The
largest of the three is named "Cheops"and
stands 55 stories high and covers 13 acres of desert. It's 2 million
blocks weigh an average of 40 tons apiece. Originally, each pyramid
was faced with a layer of polished limestone
to reflect the sun. The glare from these massive monuments was able
to be seen by all from miles around. |
