DesignDesign Studio- This class in the Sayre High School art course of study is a pre-requisite to all other art studios offered at the high school. The class centers on the application of skills learned in the junior high and their applications to fine art applications in a studio setting. Students learn problem solving skills and begin to develop independent, creative working skills. Selection of media is also stressed with each student having the opportunity to develop their own technique in the process of creating art. All work is both graded by the instructor and self-evaluated by the students. This course begins the students art history course which exposes the students to the art from earliest times to the present.(Full Year)
Semester 1 During this term, the students are exposed to a variety of projects that teach artistic styles, teach composition and the elements of design. Projects are planned to result in quality work that is suitable for portfolio selection. ( Report: Birth of Art)

Semester 2 This marking period deals with the understanding of value within art media and it's application both in mono-chromatic and color situations. Concentrated examination of this concept is used to complete the project given. The semester also includes the skills involved in lettering both formal and informal. Semester 3 This unit deals with the skills needed to develop in the area of drawing. After review of drawing skills given earlier in the junior high offerings, the students complete a series of 5 drawings selected from a set of ten drawing problems that are designed to expose students to a variety of drawing options that broaden the students understanding of the drawing medium. Semester 4 This semester is devoted to the rendering of the human form. Understanding and demonstrations of different approaches are stressed in the unit to allow the students to develop strategies for their own solution to the design problem.
