| This enormous building is
considered to be the first of it's kind ever created.
It combined a long open space... (Basilica style) with a centralized dome... (Rotunda style). The structural challenge was to create a huge round dome supported on square supporting walls. The interior of the building was so ornate with mosaics of gold it was compared to "Heaven on Earth." |
