{short description of image} Nike
In this statue the "Goddess of Victory" is represented as alighting the prow of a war ship. The "Nike of Samothrance", wind swept, her wings still beating, brings strength, weight and grace to any who view this masterpiece of the Hellenistic period. The Nike is so impressive that it seems impossible that any sculptor could possibly create a marble figure so perfect as to be cloaked in a wet drapery from the spray of the ocean.
