Sphinx Rock Cut Tombs
The rock-cut tombs of the middle kingdom largely replaced the old kingdom pyramid tombs. The expensive, futile effort to attempt to protect the kings mummy with pyramids from the grave robbers led the way for these types of tombs. The tomb shown here is excavated to show the front but in egyption times it would've been buried to keep it's location secret.
