Painting --15th Century Italian Art-- Birth of Venus
This piece, thought to be inspired by a poem of the period, shows Venus, born of sea foam floating on a shell being blown by the Zephyrs to the sacred island Cyprus. She is greeted there by the nympth Pomona, decended from the ancient goddess of fruit trees, who covers her with a brocaded mantle.
